The pioneering lighting designer Poul Henningsen drew from scientific principles to create beautiful multi-shade lighting that offers glare-free, softly diffused light. The PH 3/3 Pendant (1929), designed by Poul Henningsen for Louis Poulsen, features his renowned three-shade system, which softly directs light downward. Choose from three handblown opal glass shades, which create a soft glow; black metal shades lined in white, which focus light directly downward; or a mix of a black metal top shade with two opal glass shades below. Considered a “whole size pendant” by Louis Poulsen, but smaller than some other PH 3-shade pendants, the 3/3 is designed for higher mounting where it can fully disperse its light and create a welcoming ambience. Hang it above a dining or kitchen table, or island; beside a bed, sofa, or chair; or in an entry or hallway. Includes a 12’ cord and accommodates an A19 LED bulb (not included). Made in Denmark.

Poul Henningsen

Trained as an architect, Poul Henningsen is best known for a series of lighting fixtures that resulted from his fascination with the then-new technology of the electric light bulb. In 1925, one of these fixtures won first prize for lighting at the International Exposition of Decorative Arts in Paris. The next year it was put into production by Louis Poulsen & Co.
