The Series 3300 Sofa (1956) predates Arne Jacobsen's Swan and Egg Chairs by two years, all of which became part of his interior design for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen. In fact, Jacobsen used an early model of it at his terrace house. Rather than organic and fluid, the sofa is wholly linear in profile and dimension, with chromed tubular steel forming its slender frame and outlining its angles. The voluminous padded seats seem to float, not rest, resulting in an expression that’s light and balanced. Made in Poland.

Arne Jacobsen

Arne Jacobsen began training as a mason before studying at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, where he won a silver medal for a chair that was exhibited at the 1925 Exposition Internationale des Arts Decoratifs. Jacobsen’s work remains appealing and fresh today, combining free-form shapes with the traditional attributes of Scandinavian design, material and structural integrity.
