Designed by Ferruccio Laviani in 1999, the Max Desk from Kartell brings quiet refinement to the home workspace. Its distinctive hourglass tabletop – rendered in durable, scratch-resistant laminate – rests on a base of converging chromed steel legs. Laviani, shaped by Memphis design in the late '80s, carries the movement's belief that furniture need not choose between practicality and personality. Ferruccio Laviani

Ferruccio Laviani is part of a generation of Italian designers who came to prominence with the Memphis Group. Born in 1960, Laviani studied both architecture and design. Soon after, he took part in the 12 Newcomers Memphis collection in 1986 and the Living on Earth Memphis collection in 1987, launching his career with ties to the colorful and idiosyncratic design movement.
