Jonah Takagi is based in Washington, D.C., and Hallgeir Homstvedt is based in Oslo, Norway, but these design partners use video conferencing to collaborate, usually when Takagi is starting his day and Homstvedt is ending his. What makes it work “is that we can both swallow our ego and acknowledge a good idea regardless of where it originated,” says Takagi. For their sleek Contour Collection (2018), the duo spent weeks tracing over each other’s scanned sketches to arrive at a design that features a slim frame and sweeping back panel. “Chairs are mostly seen from the back, so that panel was crucial,” says Homstvedt.
