Modern Shelving System

Modern shelvingcomes in freestanding and wall mounted versions and is available in a range of materials, from metal (usually coated steel) to wood in a variety of species and finishes. A mid century modern shelving system provides a way to select as much or little storage as you need while adding that touch of mid century style. Design Within Reach offers several shelving systems in that category. Shelving systems have the advantage of customization, allowing you to tailor the system to fit your space or preference. They also can usually be expanded later as needs or desires change. A metal wall shelving system might have a framework of steel wire with a protective coating onto which shelves of wood or another material are placed. The position of shelves can usually be adjusted up or down to accommodate whatever is being placed on them.

Types of modern shelving systems

Wall mounted shelving systems are available in a range of materials and styles. Often some kind of rail or bracket is first attached to a wall. and then shelves are attached as needed. A track shelving system works in that way and makes for very easy movement of shelves. It may also be called an adjustable shelving system. In a wire shelving system, the parts that hold the shelves are made of metal that has been given some kind of protective finish, like a powder-coating. A modular shelving system is made of various components with differing features, sizes, and sometimes finishes that can be arranged or stacked in many ways to suit needs or whims. One advantage of such systems is the ability to change the configuration or add to it as desired. DWR offers a wide range of shelving systems of varying materials and styles.

Where to use shelving systems in your home

Shelving systems can be used in any room in the house and even the basement. Kitchen wall shelves are useful for storing ingredients, spices, cookware, linens, and small appliances. Kitchen shelving units can come wall-mounted or freestanding to suit individual needs and style. They often fall in the category of open kitchen shelving, but some units come with doors and even drawers to keep things out of sight. Some shelving systems can be assembled to meet specific needs, such as when a custom pantry shelving system is called for. Closets, especially bedroom closets, are another place where shelving is in demand and the need arises for a closet shelving system. The home office also needs organization, and shelving is often part of the solution. Home office shelving can be approached in a range of ways, from freestanding wood bookshelves to office wall shelving systems with wire frames.
