Italian designer Franco Albini, considered to be among the most important Neo-Rationalist designers, also happened to be the first European commissioned by Knoll. Much of his furniture, including the lightly scaled Albini Desk (1938), was designed to make use of the most inexpensive raw materials available during World War II, when other materials were scarce. Using just steel, glass and wood, his desk demonstrates a striking clarity and balance, unencumbered by extraneous ornamentation. When used as a freestanding piece, its simple design is appealing from every angle. The “floating” two-drawer pedestal mounts to the right side of desk. This is the authentic Albini Desk produced by Knoll. Made in U.S.A.
