Authentic modern design “Our name embodies the mission of our company: to make well-designed products easily accessible to design-savvy professionals.” That was the first sentence in the first DWR catalog, which landed in mailboxes July 4, 1999.
Design Within Reach exists to make authentic modern design accessible. Authentic means that it’s the real thing. Accessible means that it can be seen and touched and that it’s in stock. When Design Within Reach was founded in 1998, consumers simply weren’t able to buy the classics at retail. To find them, they had to visit Europe or work with intermediaries. Design Within Reach changed that by making innovative works from iconic designers accessible for the first time. Design Within Reach is passionate about design – past, present and future.
By working with the best manufacturers, Design Within Reach delivers heirloom-quality designs, many of which are exclusive to the brand. While they champion existing brands, they also commission today’s vanguard designers to create unique works under the Design Within Reach name. These products share a timeless aesthetic, honest materials and inviting design. As a result, Design Within Reach offers the world’s largest selection of authored pieces.
