Architect Poul Henningsen was born in 1894, grew up in a small Danish town without electricity and then built a career designing lamps. His was a world bathed in the soft glow of petroleum lamps, and Henningsen’s goal was to achieve this softness from the then-new technology of the electric bulb. By experimenting with concentric tiers of reflective metal bands and changing the size, shape and position of the shades, Henningsen was able to reduce glare and distribute light evenly. His PH 3-2 1/2 Outdoor Wall Sconce is a member of the PH 3-shade family, originally designed in 1926. The three stainless steel shades are arranged in a 3-2-1 configuration to spread reflections over a logarithmic spiral, and the matte white undersides project soft, even light throughout the surrounding area. Bulb (not included): incandescent 100W/A19/E26 or comparable CFL or LED. UL Listed for use outdoors. Manufactured in Denmark by Louis Poulsen.
