It takes a bit of bravado to live with this iconic piece by Gae Aulenti, who believes strongly in the concept of surprise (and she’s not referring to stumbling over this table in the dark). The Italian architect and designer created her 1980 Tavolo Con Ruote (“table with wheels”) at a time when she was working on several large-scale museum projects. The layout of the Musée d’Orsay in Paris, the design of the Contemporary Art Gallery at the Centre Pompidou in Paris, and the Palazzo Grassi in Venice are all Aulenti’s works.
