Matthew Richards was pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering when he was inspired by the work of Alexander Calder (who was also a mechanical engineer) and began making mobiles (2009). It began as a hobby, but it wasn't long before the powerful combination of his art and his technical background led him to a new career – and a distinguished one at that. Richards' mobiles have been specially commissioned and installed on the set of Ocean's Thirteen, at Harpo Studios and Bristol-Myers Squibb. Creating these kinetic works of art satisfies both sides of Richards' personality: the artistic side and the technical side.
