Danish designer Povl Eskildsen has been working with Gloster for nearly a decade, creating welcoming forms that satisfy the company’s “made for life” mantra. Possessing a deep knowledge of materials and manufacturing techniques, Eskildsen grew up in the furniture business, working alongside his father as a young boy earning pocket change. While he credits his father for teaching him about quality and craftsmanship, it was the work of Eames, Mackintosh and Wegner that inspired his love of clean, functional forms. Verden, Danish for “world,” is an indoor-outdoor collection designed with a global audience in mind; its clean, tapering lines are certain to be enjoyed on all continents year-round. The Dining Table (2012) features a solid teak tabletop constructed with long grooves in the underside to allow the wood to naturally expand and contract. Without these grooves, known as relief kerfing, a solid top of this size would warp. High-quality finger-joint construction also ensures that this collection will endure years of use. Like all teak products, Verden will develop a rich, silvery patina over time, or it can be treated with teak oil to maintain its original luster. Made in Indonesia.
