Herman Miller has a long tradition of styling its physical spaces with bold ads and graphics, a process it calls “environmental enrichment.” Fans of the brand often ask where they can find these works of art, which prompted the company to reprint select pieces from its archives. The eye-catching Face Print (1979) by Irving Harper with George Nelson & Associates playfully features an abstract mask. What does that have to do with furniture, you ask? Take another look and you’ll see that this face is composed of Herman Miller drawer hardware and finish options.

George Nelson

Possessing one of the most inventive minds of the 20th century, George Nelson was the rare person who can envision what isn’t there yet. Nelson felt that designers must be “aware of the consequences of their actions on people and society and thus cultivate a broad base of knowledge and understanding.”
