Details

Charles and Ray Eames believed in surrounding themselves with art and objects that brought them great joy. Chief among them was a huge wooden whale that measured over seven feet in length. The Eameses were exceptionally fond of this anonymous work of North American folk art, which was dubbed the Eames House Whale. It occupied a permanent place in the Eames Office and appeared in photo shoots, including in the first images of the Lounge Chair. Like its predecessor, this smaller-scale reproduction is hand-painted. It’s crafted from ash wood and hand-painted. Made in Poland.

Charles and Ray Eames

Design is for living. That maxim shaped a widespread shift in design during the 1940s and '50s. It was a revolution of form, an exciting visual language that signaled a new age and a fresh start – and two of its prime movers were Charles and Ray Eames. This husband-and-wife team's unique synergy led to a whole new look in furniture. Lean and modern. Sleek and simple. Beautifully functional.
