Born into a family of furniture makers in 1925, Michel Ducaroy inherited the trade but not its conventions. After training at the École Nationale des Beaux-Arts, he began a decades-long collaboration with Ligne Roset, challenging traditional ideas of comfort through new materials and technologies. His designs are distinctly Ducaroy, from the classic Togo Fireside Chair to the newly reissued Kashima Sofa.

Kashima is Ducaroy’s French take on the classically English Chesterfield – softer, slouchier. Reissued by Ligne Roset, it’s engineered from high-density foam, with cocooning seats that conceal lumbar, arm, and head support behind pinched, quilted seams.
