The Quilton Collection
Launched by Danish design brand HAY in 2021, the versatile Quilton Sofa Collection embodies a refreshing take on contemporary sofa design.
London-based design studio Doshi Levien conceived this modular sofa collection as a flexible, "quilted landscape sofa system" capable of accommodating a wide range of households and lifestyle needs – and with numerous modules including two- and three-seat sofas, single seaters, ottomans, and sectional sofas of all shapes and sizes, the collection measures up to that goal. Each piece in the Quilton collection features wide, quilt-like tufting (hence the name Quilton) and a generous surface area for sitting, lounging, playing, sleeping... Quilton silhouettes are thick, soft, and rounded, but not heavy; they open a space rather than weigh it down.
Described by the designers as “sculptural, bold, and tailored,” the Quilton Sofa Collection can harmonize with “diverse cultural and architectural settings.” Its versatility makes it equally at home in modern residential spaces, creative workplaces, or high-end commercial environments. The finely detailed upholstery is available in numerous material options, including (but not limited to) Flamiber bouclé, Prone Leather, and varying blends of wool, cotton, and recycled polyester. Each material is also available in numerous (sometimes bold and playful) colors, allowing users to further customize their sofa to suit their interiors.
With a bold postmodern aesthetic, fine upholstery details, and a distinctive quilted surface, the Quilton Sofa Collection is a unique addition to any contemporary living space.

Quilton Lift: Elevated Comfort
In 2024, HAY expanded the Quilton family with the release of the Quilton Lift Collection. This new iteration retains all the design elements that define the original collection but introduces one significant feature: elevated legs. Solid wooden legs, available in lacquered oak, walnut, and black oak finishes, lift Quilton pieces a few inches off the floor. (Note: seat height is unaffected; Quilton and Quilton Lift seats are the same height.) The raised design and exposed wood elements push the Quilton Lift Collection toward the mid-century modern aesthetic, while the monolithic, flat-to-the-floor Quilton pieces remain more solidly under the postmodern/contemporary umbrella.
The Quilton Lift collection also includes various seating options – a two-seater sofa, a three-seater sofa, and an ottoman – but also introduces a daybed, further expanding Quilton’s wide breadth of options.

Designing Quilton
The Quilton Sofa Collection was designed by the innovative and acclaimed duo Nipa Doshi and Jonathan Levien. Since founding their studio in 2000, Doshi Levien have built a reputation for producing furniture that balances cultural richness with technical precision. Doshi, originally from India, brings a deep understanding of modernist design ideals and materiality, while Levien, trained in fine cabinet-making and industrial design, contributes technical expertise and industrial precision. Fused, their diverse backgrounds are perfectly suited to the design and fabrication of modern pieces that balance form and function.
According to HAY co-founder Rolf Hay, "Doshi Levien are designers you go to when you want a strong product... they are incredibly original and detail-oriented." This attention to detail is clear in Quilton’s finely tailored surface and its expansive, sculptural silhouettes. From initial pencil sketches to full-size prototypes, Doshi Levien collaborated closely with HAY to bring this sofa to life. The team explored each element of the design in depth, resulting in a sofa that is as much an art piece as it is a functional seating solution.
