He’s a rationalist. She’s a dreamer. But Ad Luijten and Mimy A. Diar – the husband-and-wife team behind Belgian creative studio Beaverhausen – always meet in the middle. After years of working in advertising, the duo switched gears to focus on product design, a discipline they found far more gratifying thanks to furniture’s enduring ability to shape modern living.
Their prior experience, however, continues to influence their work: “One thing that I kept from advertising is that you don’t have time to explain,” says Ad. “When you see it, you need to understand it immediately. I think that we have also put that into our designs.”
Since Beaverhausen’s inception in 2011, Diar and Luijten have honed their aesthetic, finding common ground in perfectly calibrated proportions, 360-degree design, and, above all, simple silhouettes that translate tranquility into friendly, inviting forms. They note, “It's often the simplest lines that have the greatest power of expression.”
