“It is the materials’ own language I seek to express," Danish designer Poul Kjærholm once said. A trained cabinetmaker-turned-furniture designer, he brought a discerning eye to industrial materials. While at the Danish School of Arts and Crafts, Kjærholm began experimenting with steel, drawn to its strength, lightness, and the way it reflected light. The PK3 Chair is an expression of his vision – minimalist, honest, and deeply refined. Originally conceived in 1954 but never put into production, the PK3 makes its introduction for the first time with Fritz Hansen. Made in Poland.
  • Designed by cabinetmaker-turned-modernist Poul Kjærholm, who brought architectural precision to every piece.
  • Crafted in steel, a material Kjærholm admired for its strength, lightness, and the way it reflects light.
  • A minimalist form that reveals its structure with honesty and restraint – no excess, only intention.
  • First conceived in 1954 but never produced, PK3 makes its 2025 debut through Fritz Hansen.

Poul Kjærholm

Poul Kjærholm’s pieces are sculptures in themselves, but with an understated, subtle quality that makes them ideally suited for accompanying art. Apprenticed as a cabinetmaker but drawn to the potential of steel, Kjærholm brought craftsmanship and industrial materials together in the design of his PK series of furniture.
