The human form was the inspiration for the PK9™ Dining Chair (1960) – specifically, an imprint in the sand made by designer Poul Kjærholm’s wife while sitting at the beach. Hanne Kjærholm, the ultimate good sport, then sat in boxes of clay to help her husband determine the optimal form for a comfortable seat. Also known as the “Tulip Chair” due to its graceful, flower-like form on a tri-legged stem, its slender pedestal base of steel supports a softly curved leather seat. This design classic provides hours of comfort for dining or sitting, while its clean-lined form pairs easily with many tables. Made in Denmark.
  • A Danish midcentury modern classic by Poul Kjærholm.
  • The graceful, three-legged spring-steel base offers an airy, open expression.
  • The comfortably curved seat is upholstered in leather.

Poul Kjærholm

Poul Kjærholm’s pieces are sculptures in themselves, but with an understated, subtle quality that makes them ideally suited for accompanying art. Apprenticed as a cabinetmaker but drawn to the potential of steel, Kjærholm brought craftsmanship and industrial materials together in the design of his PK series of furniture.
