Designed by Greta Magnusson Grossman for Gubi
Leap forward —
The Grasshopper Floor Lamp’s unique tripod stand tilts backward, giving the impression that the fixture is somehow alive. Its design is strategic, too, with a shade that can be tilted and rotated 360 degrees to direct the lamp’s light.
Details
European modernism, Californian cool
Upon moving to California in 1940, Swedish architect Greta Magnusson Grossman began combining her European training with a West Coast aesthetic, adding a sense of play. Her Grasshopper Floor Lamp (1948) resembles its namesake in form, with a lithe tubular steel frame and elongated conical shade. Ball-jointed, the shade can be moved in any direction to focus the light and minimize glare. This is an authentic Grossman lamp. Bulb (not included): 40W max, E12 base. Made in Denmark.

Great style, quality
Got this a few years back and its style has endured three different sofas - it's just a great little something different in the room. Quality is great, as you would expect. It does have a bit of a footprint from the three legs and angled arm, so keep that in mind if you are limited on space. The other thing to note is the height - it works well with lower seating options (so will work with most modern furniture); for one sofa that was a bit higher (19" seat height), I used bed risers to give the Grasshopper a bit more height (they were hidden from view by a side table).
