Details

Born into a prestigious family of Murano glassmakers, Italian lighting designer Carlo Nason explored the possibilities of mouth-blown glass, employing centuries-old techniques to create some of the most forward-thinking lamps of the mid-twentieth century. Now reissued by GUBI, Nason’s Lotus Lamp (1969) blooms with luminous, petal-like layers that glow from within, achieved with precisely crafted, finely bubbled pulegoso glass. When not in use, it displays his mastery of the material, catching and reflecting light with an ethereal presence. Bulb (included): LED 7W/E26. Made in China.

COLLECTIBLE REISSUE

Lighting as art

Originally created in 1969, the Lotus Lamp was only available for a few years before it went out of production. GUBI’s reissue celebrates designer Carlo Nason’s artistry and restraint, inspired by industrial design and the Space Age aesthetic. His work “sits closer to art pieces than traditional product designs,” notes GUBI CEO Marie Kristine Schmidt.
