Description

The beauty of simplicity.

Following his apprenticeship with the legendary Constantin Brancusi, sculptor Isamu Noguchi began to experiment in environmental design, theatrical sets – he was the only designer that choreographer Martha Graham would work with – and, eventually, product design. He created his first furniture prototypes for Herman Miller in 1942 and went on to work with companies such as Steuben and Zenith. The Noguchi Table (1948) conceals nothing, revealing everything about the nature of simplicity. Two smoothly shaped pieces of solid wood interlock to form a tripod that supports a thick glass tabletop. The base is available in black, walnut, natural cherry and white ash, the latter of which is finished with a process that arrests the wood in its freshly cut state, resulting in a creamy white color that will not turn yellow over time. This is the authentic Noguchi Table by Herman Miller. Made in U.S.A.

A stamp of authenticity.

To signify its authenticity, this table etched with Noguchi's signature in two places: on the longest edge of the glass tabletop and on a medallion underneath the base. It also holds a registered trademark for its unique configuration.

  • An iconic piece for homes and offices since 1948.
  • Instantly recognizable sculptural base and organically shaped top.
  • Sculptural base looks different from every angle.
  • 5-year warranty.

U.S.A. (1904–1988)

Perhaps more than any other midcentury master, Isamu Noguchi blurred the lines between public and personal, between art and design. His career was defined by experimenting, learning and creating. “You can find out how to do something and then do it,” he said, “or do something and then find out what you did.”

Table with staying power
A beautiful & great table ... bought the table in Manhattan 1970 from Maurice Villency. If there is one downside to this table, the glass is so heavy! it takes 2 people to move the top to clean it...any tips on how to clean the glass on the original table

It lives up to its reputation as an iconic and sculptural piece. It looks amazing from every angle and we admire it every day.

A work of art
Noguchi was first and foremost a sculptor and it shows in this lovely table. The design is simple, balanced, and gorgeous. As for function, it is perfect. The glass is thick and sits securely on the beautifully crafted wooden support. The placement of the Noguchi signature is quite subtle; I had to go back to the website for instructions on where to find it. There are knock-offs of this design around, but we wanted the "original" from Herman Miller. The table came with a certificate of authenticity, but I was still quite relieved when I finally found the signature. I am so glad that Herman Miller contines to produce this iconic piece.

Perfection!
I've wanted a Noguchi table for a long time, but to be honest, just didn't want to spend the money. After thoroughly investigating the knockoffs, I learned that they have a tendency to collapse! Decision made - I ordered the Noguchi table from Herman Miller and could not be happier with my purchase!!! The table is truly a piece of art. Also noteworthy is how wonderful the Herman Miller representatives were - customer service at its finest.

Nice!
I rated the table "average" for comfort since it's not applicable. It's beautiful -- actually better looking in person than in the photo.

Putting it together was a breeze -- but unless you are Hercules, it's a two-person job.

Definitely worth the purchase.

how do you care for the glass so it doesn't get scratched?
Carol G on Nov 17, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Proper care for the glass on the Noguchi table would include using coasters and place mats when eating or drinking, also being sure to keep any hot stove items or utensils off of the table to reduce the risk. When cleaning the glass surface we would recommend using a soft microfiber cloth as well as a spot-clean with a mild spray detergent. Do not use bleach or other harsh chemicals as they can be abrasive to the glass surface.
What type of wood or material is the black base made of ?
Kristin D on Nov 16, 2019
BEST ANSWER: The Noguchi Table is made from a solid wood base in Noguchi black, walnut, natural cherry or white ash.
