Details

Mexican designer Joel Escalona looked to simple, sculptural forms to create the Noviembre Stool (2021) in solid white oak. Its curved forms are sanded by hand and assembled with chiseled mortise-and-tenon joints. “I try to balance the pragmatic with the poetic,” says Escalona. Stately in its simplicity, Noviembre has a sculptural profile that captivates the eye. The natural clear finish celebrates the wood grain, while the blackened finish highlights its dramatic silhouette. Can be used as a stool or table. Made in Mexico.

Joel Escalona

“I try to balance the pragmatic with the poetic,” says Joel Escalona. The Mexican designer draws references from personal experiences and different cultural inspirations in his work, which has shown at Art Basel, ICFF, Salone del Mobile Milano, and more. This upshot of his approach is a collection of furniture that feels at once sculptural and functional, and captivating in its craftsmanship.
