Details

Michel Ducaroy spent the 1970s chasing new ideas of comfort, pushing foam, quilting, and thermoplastics into shapes no one had tried before. Togo® came first, and its unique, low-slung form soon became an icon of experimental design. Ducaroy applied that instinct to the Chesterfield sofa, loosening its formal English silhouette for something softer, slouchier, and distinctly French. Reissued by Ligne Roset, the Kashima Armchair (1976) transforms buttoned elegance into a playful design made entirely in high-density foam, with pinched quilted seams and a nest-like seat that creates a cocooning embrace. Made in France.

Michel Ducaroy

Born in 1925 to a long line of French furniture makers, Michel Ducaroy trained at the Ecole Nationale des Beaux Arts before leaving the family business to go solo in 1952. He quickly became one of the most prominent designers to work with Ligne Roset, producing pieces that pushed the boundaries of modern design. In 1973 he cemented himself in design history with the modular, all-foam Togo seating.
