Details

With the PK22™ Easy Chair (1956), Danish designer Poul Kjærholm continued his explorations in shaping steel, an industrial material he felt could be treated with the same reverence as wood, but in a modern vernacular. The PK22’s simple, lithe frame supports a single seat and back piece upholstered in leather or woven in wicker. Crisscross seaming on the leather front and a single seam on the back add subtle visual interest to its clean-lined simplicity, while the woven wicker adds rich natural texture. The PK22 Easy Chair’s sleek, elegant silhouette is imbued with comfort and ease, and has become a modern design classic that will elevate any room. Made in Denmark.
  • A Danish midcentury modern classic by Poul Kjærholm.
  • Its lithe steel frame supports the body at a comfortable, relaxed pitch.
  • Single seat and back in luxe leather with stitched detail, or natural woven wicker.

Poul Kjærholm

Poul Kjærholm’s pieces are sculptures in themselves, but with an understated, subtle quality that makes them ideally suited for accompanying art. Apprenticed as a cabinetmaker but drawn to the potential of steel, Kjærholm brought craftsmanship and industrial materials together in the design of his PK series of furniture.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Wicker, also known as rattan, is a natural material made from the inner stem fibres of the tropical palm, Calamus Rotang, native to India, Sri Lanka and Myanmar. Over time, wicker develops a beautiful patina. Wicker is woven by hand to create the seats and backrests of Fritz Hansen’s Poul Kjærholm furniture. Worn or damaged wicker seats and backrests can be repaired.

CARE & MAINTENANCE

Wicker will dry out if placed in low humidity environments, including rooms with central heating. When wicker dries, it hardens and risks breaking. Dry wicker is not covered by the Fritz Hansen warranty.

CLEANING & STAIN REMOVAL

Clean wicker monthly to maintain its condition. Dissolve one teaspoon of soap flakes in a litre of hot water. Using an atomiser, spray the solution onto both sides of the wicker, allowing it to penetrate the material. Excess water should be wiped from the chair with a clean, damp cloth.

CAUTION

As wicker is a natural material, colour variations will occur and are therefore not covered by warranty.
