Details

The PK25™ Lounge Chair was designed by Poul Kjærholm for his final graduation project at the Danish School of Arts and Crafts in 1952. Also known as the “Element Chair,” it represents his pioneering interest in transforming industrial materials such as steel and rope into poetic yet functional works of art. He set out to use only a single piece of each material: The continuous steel frame is formed from one piece of steel without any joints or connections. It’s then woven with an eighty-yard length of flag halyard, or roping. The end result not only catapulted Kjærholm’s career, but continues to endure today. The PK25’s lithe, elegant form is a welcoming presence in any room. Made in Denmark.
  • An innovative Danish midcentury design by Poul Kjærholm.
  • The airy frame is formed from a single piece of bent steel.
  • The seat and back are woven from 80 yards of flag halyard, or roping.
  • Its lithe steel frame supports the body at a comfortable, relaxed pitch.

Poul Kjærholm

Poul Kjærholm’s pieces are sculptures in themselves, but with an understated, subtle quality that makes them ideally suited for accompanying art. Apprenticed as a cabinetmaker but drawn to the potential of steel, Kjærholm brought craftsmanship and industrial materials together in the design of his PK series of furniture.
