A bird feeder that is functional sculpture for the modern yard, the Bird Silo is designed so that its only impact on nature is feeding the birds. The whole life-cycle of the product was considered. Made from 100% recycled plastic (even the rope is 100% recycled), the specialty feeder attracts birds who prefer to eat while clinging vertically. Common diners include chickadees, titmice, nuthatches, and woodpeckers. The vertical design deters house sparrows and pigeons, who can sometimes be pushy and dominate feeders.
  • Subtle flecks in the 100% recycled plastic cones that tell a story about its recycled beginnings.
  • The rope is also 100% recycled and custom produced with a pixelated pattern and a tactile feel.
  • Bird Silo flat packs, and it is easy to assemble and disassemble.

Studio Tolvanen

Being husband and wife and also design partners at Studio Tolvanen, Julie and Mika Tolvanen spend a lot of time talking about their work. "We are constantly looking at things," Julie says, "and pointing things out to each other in a kind of never-ending conversation about design that later shows up in our work. Neither of us ever gets tired of thinking about design, so we are a good match.”
