Design story.

When Bill Stumpf and Don Chadwick designed the Herman Miller Aeron Chair (1994), they combined a deep knowledge of human-centered design with never-before-seen technology to create a task chair unlike any other. In 2016, Don Chadwick evolved his chair to incorporate 20 years’ research in the science of sitting, as well as advancements in materials. “We really started from the ground up,” he says. “The result better supports the type of work we do today.” The changes include a new suspension system, better spine support, re-engineered tilt and more. It’s more lively, more responsive and more sensitive to body size. In other words, it’s everything the world loves about Aeron, plus more. This is the authentic Aeron Chair produced by Herman Miller. Made in U.S.A.

Features and benefits.

Adjustable PostureFit SL Support: SL refers to the sacral/lumbar region, which is the base of the spine up to the midback. This backrest supports the spine while maintaining the natural forward tilt of the pelvis, with two pads that flex independently to support your lumbar and stabilize the base of the spine for a more powerful seated posture. Breathable 8Z Pellicle Suspension Seat and Back: eight latitudinal zones of varying tension provide comfortable support while permitting air circulation to keep you cool. Seat Tilt Mechanism: Whether leaning forward or reclining back, Aeron supports you through the entire range of motion, keeping your movements smooth and balanced.

Find your size.

Aeron is available in three sizes so you can find a perfect fit. Size Small is recommended for height 4'10"–5'9", weight 90–150 lbs. Size Medium for height 5'2"–6'6", weight 130–325 lbs. Size Large for height: 5'3"–6'6", weight 180–350 lbs.

  • The perfect balance of ergonomics and comfort.
  • You’ll sit naturally while also being supported.
  • Breathable fabric keeps you cool and comfortable.
  • Adjustable tilt and seat angle, plus superior back support.
  • Fully adjustable arms (height, depth and angle).
  • Constructed of 53% recycled materials.
  • 12-year warranty.

Chairs are for sitting on. It sounds obvious, but there are designers who seem to miss that point. Not Don Chadwick, however, who has developed some of the best chairs on the market – including the Aeron Chair with Bill Stumpf – by emphasizing the body and the fact that bodies move.

Chadwick calls his hands-on studio in Santa Monica an “experimental ...

What does jazz have to do with design? Everything, according to Bill Stumpf, who once said that he liked to collaborate with other designers the way a jazz trio improvises, playing together with no fixed destination. The approach requires complete attention, and you have to trust your instincts. Design should make room for spontaneity and discovery, said Stumpf, “blending the pleasure ...

Best thing for my chronically bad lower back.

The best chair I've ever owned. Hands down.
Buying this chair without ever sitting in it made me nervous, especially at the price that I was paying, but I absolutely fell in love with it the second I sat in it. I never knew I could like a chair as I do my Herman Miller Aeron. If you're on the fence about this just take the leap, you wont be disappointed. Also, make sure you watch the adjustment video to ensure you set the chair up perfectly for you.

Best chair ever, with one minor quibble
I've had an Aeron chair since the autumn of 2003 when an RSI problem had me hire an ergonomics expert who was horrified at my desk, my computer set up, and my chair, which was one of those cloth 'executive' chairs one can pick up at a Big Box warehouse for a hundred bucks or so.

It was an expensive purchase, but one I never regretted. But after 16+ years, that chair began developing problems. The right arm pivot broke about 3 years ago, so I had to fix it in place with a bolt. Then the hydraulic lift part began to fail such that sitting in the chair, it'd sink several inches before stabilizing, so I had to set the chair high. Still, a good, comfortable chair.

This year, I decided finally to buy a new one, and the difference is night and day. Much more comfortable, and I love the new back support system. My aftermarket headrest fit perfectly on the back.

Here's my quibble with the new chair, and the reason for the one-star deduction: I wish the armrests were "stiffer" in both the front-to-back and side-to-side adjustments. I normally like the armrests as far forward as they'll go, but I'm frequently knocking them back several clicks, often while just sitting down or getting up. And I don't like how they'll pivot from side to side a few degrees before running up against the pivot detent resistance. They just feel loose, when I wish they'd just hold their position like the old armrests did (well, one of mine, on that older Aeron chair...).

Still quibbles aside, this is a big improvement overall and I'd gladly buy again.

I love my Aeron!
The chair is really comfortable. I light of having to work from home now, I decided to upgrade my office chair and I am sold on this one! It's got great back support and adjusts to exactly what I need ergonomically.
It's a bit pricey but well worth the investment if you plan on making a lot of use of your office chair.

I especially appreciate the fact that the chair has wheels that won't let the chair run away on you!
(it also looks great too)

Aeron Fabulous
I bought my first Herman Miller chair when I was a purchasing manager for a medium size manufacturing facility. I couldn't believe the support but I knew I was sitting on something revolutionary. Fast forward 10 years I have my own web design business - I purchase the Aeron. Cool in summer, comfortable and revolutionary the Aeron is an extraordinary chair. I love it and have used it for over 15 years. Remarkable, all I've had to replace were the casters and the air cartridge (at year 13). Reliable and revolutionary - that's the Aeron

Awesome Chair Overall
I love the chair, and it's very comfortable. The only problem I find is the edge of the base is sharp, and it cut my skins a couple of times. Maybe need to fix this issue in the future

Great chair
I purchased the Aeron chair after considerable research including reading reviews. The chair meets all my expectations. It is solidly built and appears that it will last many years. The chair is very comfortable and its adjustability makes it a winner for all members of my family.

Excellent chair
I was hesitant to spend $1k+ on a desk chair, but I work from home and spend hundreds of hours a month at my desk. Compared to the crap chair I had before, this is another world.

I can feel the strain that's been taken off my back with the posturefit feature. The 5 degree forward tilt is the greatest feature I never knew I needed until I had it.
