Beautiful enough to hang on a wall — “I’m delighted to be making a functional and affordable piece that can also be hung on the wall and viewed as a piece of sculpture,” says Ed Wohl of each of his cutting boards.

Finished by hand

In 1990, after 20 years of making his own fine furniture, Wohl began to produce cutting boards on the side out of his shop. The Edward Wohl Cutting Board (1990), with distinct shapes and materials, became a big hit. Each is made from a single piece of carefully selected bird’s-eye maple for consistent tone and figuring, precision-shaped and beveled for graceful shape and balance, and finally sanded and oiled by hand. Treat occasionally with mineral oil. Made in U.S.A.

Edward Wohl

In 1972, Edward Wohl and his wife, Ann, moved into a small farmhouse 40 miles west of Madison built by Alfred Larson, one of Frank Lloyd Wright’s first stonemasons. In 1981, they bought 45 acres nearby and built a house and a shop where Wohl still makes wood furniture. His cutting boards, for which he is best known, are made in a second shop nearby.

Knot
My daughter and I really like this cutting board. It has a noticeable dark knot or streak in the wood on one side. We were surprised as all pictures in the catalog feature blond wood.
