Details

Presented in 1952 at the Art and Crafts Spring Exhibition in Copenhagen, Børge Mogensen's BM0121 Dining Table was designed as an elegant solution for small homes. With no original drawings to guide them, Carl Hansen & Søn meticulously recreated the table from an original model, a process that revealed sophisticated engineering concealed within its seeming simplicity. The 19mm top is deceptively slender; beneath it, bent steel provides structural integrity. Slightly tapered legs and an upward-curving apron create generous legroom, while an insert leaf expands seating from four to six. The result is a dining table as relevant today as it was seven decades ago. Made in Denmark.
  • Notable 1952 design faithfully recreated by hand-measurement from an original model.
  • Slender 19mm top with concealed bent steel profiles for structural integrity.
  • Tapered legs and upward-curving apron create generous legroom and visual lightness.
  • Insert leaf expands seating from four to six with ease.

Børge Mogensen

Børge Mogensen studied under and worked for Kaare Klint, the father of Danish modern design, and later was his teaching assistant at the Royal Academy. Klint’s emphasis on human scale, excellent materials, functionalism and craftsmanship influenced Mogensen, though he adopted an embrace of mass production and a hellbent calling to lighten the heavy Danish furniture of the past.
