Details
Designed by Jean Prouvé for his own groundbreaking La Maison Tropicale, the Potence Lamp (1950) provides a unique solution for suspension lighting with its ingenious engineering and elegant form. Consisting of a single metal rod that extends almost seven feet from a wall-mounted vertical bracket, this base-free lamp saves valuable floor space. A simple handle with wood knob moves the entire lamp laterally to illuminate a 180-degree range of space, and an on-cord dimmer switch allows easy light adjustment. Bulb (not included): 14W/G25/E26 CFL. UL Listed. Reproduced to exacting standards by Vitra. Made in Germany.

Jean Prouvé
“Never design anything that cannot be made,” Jean Prouvé once said. His practical body of work ranged from letter openers to doorknobs, furniture to modularly constructed buildings. Prouvé always regarded himself as more of an engineer, or “constructor,” than a designer. He never designed for the sake of form alone, concentrating instead on the essence of materials, connections, and production.
