Charles Pfister was our kind of modernist. “There is a movement away from throw-away society, away from disposable possessions,” said Pfister. “Instead, there is a mounting interest in useful, sculptural, wonderfully constructed objects.” His lounge collection (1971) is both sculptural and wonderfully constructed, embodying his intent to design items that display “opulence without waste.” Pfister was based in San Francisco (another reason we’re fans) and had a measurable effect on the world of corporate interiors in the late 20th century. Looking at his timeless namesake collection, it’s easy to see why. Manufactured by Knoll according to the original and exacting specifications of the designer. Made in U.S.A.
