Softly sculptural —
When Isamu Noguchi applied his talent for sculpting organic forms to designing furniture, the result was Freeform, a striking yet welcoming collection inspired by softly curved, water-smoothed river stones.
Details
Designed in 1946, the Freeform Collection by Isamu Noguchi was unlike anything designed then, and it’s still unlike anything designed today. Organically shaped and captivating from any angle, the Freeform Ottoman makes a sculptural statement. Originally produced in a very limited run, Freeform was brought back into production by Vitra in 2002. Made in Poland.

Isamu Noguchi
Perhaps more than any other midcentury master, Isamu Noguchi blurred the lines between public and personal, between art and design. His career was defined by experimenting, learning and creating. “You can find out how to do something and then do it,” he said, “or do something and then find out what you did.”
