Susan Clark
Susan Clark is a modern renaissance woman. “Tinkering since a young age,” the accomplished designer is trained in glassblowing, metalworking, weaving, and woodworking. This diverse craftsmanship informs her thoughtful approach to design – choosing materials that patina beautifully with age and working with restraint so “the human experience is the most ornate aspect of the object.”
More on Susan Clark
The shape of comfort
When it came to designing a sofa, Clark asked herself: What comforts could she bring to modern living? From there, Contra took shape. “I think about materiality – what combinations are missing or would be interesting to bring together,” she said. “From those elements, I think about the use and interaction, then start to form the object.” Every curve tells a story, inviting you to relax. “The rounded base alludes to lounging, so it puts you in the mindset of wanting to get into it.”
