Geometry in motion — The geometry of the Golden Gate Bridge suspension system can be seen in the airiness of the Sayl Chair’s signature back. This modern office chair features an innovative Y-Tower armature and a ventilated elastomer back that flexes with each sitter.

Each detail essential

“I knew that creating a work chair is one of design’s greatest challenges, an intimidating project in every possible way,” says Swiss designer Yves Béhar. “There is no place to hide in a chair. Every part serves a structural or tactile purpose.” With a ventilated back for air circulation and tilt limiter that lets you adjust tension and range to your liking, this chair accomplishes a great deal with only the essentials. Sayl is 90% recyclable. Made in U.S.A.

Care & Maintenance

With regular care and maintenance, your Herman Miller product will provide many years of superior performance and satisfaction. To maintain quality, please follow the cleaning procedures outlined here.

The instructions for the care and maintenance of Herman Miller products are provided to you as a service. No warranty is implied since results may vary.

Polished Aluminum

For normal cleaning, apply a pre-softened paste wax to polished aluminum components following the manufacturer's instructions. In humid atmospheres near salt water, apply the wax once a month. In other areas, apply wax every three months to maintain the appearance of the aluminum.

For normal cleaning, vacuum upholstery fabric using an upholstery attachment. If further cleaning is needed, dry-clean or spot clean fabric with solvent cleaner.

Do not brush fabric or use a vacuum attachment with a rotary brush. Brushing may permanently damage the nap or change the character of the fabric.

Do not apply water or any liquid solution. Wetting the fabric with any liquid solution may result in permanent damage.

Awesome Chair!
I am really enjoying my new Sayl chair! The chair looks modern and elegant. It is also comfortable to sit in for an extended period of time. So far, it has exceeded my expectations.

Excellent and comfortable. Just what I’ve needed.
Back feels well supported. Adjustments easy to use and actually work.

My butt whispered to me, Thank you...!
I still remember the moment I sat down on it. It felt like my butt was whispering to my ear, “thank you...!” I’ve had the chair for about a month now, and I spend a lot of time on it as Covid-19 situation makes me work full time in my home office. It’s been absolutely great. What’s amazing is that it feels so light. I’m not lifting the chair, but I get the feeling of lightness when I’m sitting on it.

Other than that, the practical-no-assembly feature was awesome. You get it delivered, and it’s good to go! And it’s lightweight, so you can move around room to room easily as needed. The wheels are well grounded, so it doesn’t move around unless you want to move.

It took me a while to decide to take the plunge because it’s rather pricey, but it’s worth every penny so far!!

Nice design that is comfortable for all day use
Looking at the reviews it really does seem that your 'mileage may vary' when using these chairs. For me I find the Sayl way more comfortable than the Aeron I use at work - but you may not. I have had mine about five years and have also found it to be very durable, but yes it does squeak when leaning back and the arm rests do flex (so I am careful not to jam them under my desk lip and then get out of the chair - the chair raises when you get out of it and the arms can get a lot of stress when bent under the desk). My suggestion is to not overlook this chair because it is relatively inexpensive compared to others in the HM range, but to try them and see which one works for you!

My One and Only since 2014
I bought this as a gift for myself back in 2014 when I got a promotion at work and it's now 2020 and still using it. The seat's fabric is in great condition for the amount of use. I am a PC gamer, 5'2, 115 lb. I sit cross-legged and lean forward most of the time, so I do sit unusual compared to others. I am on a computer majority of my day, everyday. I've sat in gaming chairs and I'm not a fan of racing-esque designs I've concluded as it doesn't suit how I sit. This chair is everything to me so if you're similar to me, this could be the chair for you.

Great chair for petite/smaller people
This chair is the perfect size for a narrower, smaller person like myself. My arms sit comfortably on these arm rests that are also adjustable horizontally.

My small complaint is that the texture of this back is a bit too bumpy and slightly uncomfortable on my skin. I would prefer the mesh back the Aeron chair has.

If they just changed the back texture, this would be the perfect chair.

Not comfortable!
The back structure just does not work. I'm on the taller side (6'1") and the upper parts press into my back and compress it inwards a bit. Since I switched to this chair I've been having upper back pain I never experienced before.

Quality is mediocre. Comfort is terrible for anything over an hour. No warranty support.
I have two of these, both about 5 years old. Not even close to comfortable as one of my Aeron chairs which vastly superior and comfort, quality and materials. Good luck getting anything out of that "12 year warranty". The arm broke on one of my Sayl chairs and I could not find the original receipt - Herman Miller "sorry but we cannot help you" - Great warranty support. Will never purchase another product from HM.

Looks great but arm rest and seat quality is wanting
I have had the Sayl chair for 6 years. In my office, we use herman miller aeron, mirra and eames chairs.

The sayl chair gets used less than the chairs in my office but the seat is nearly worn through, and starting having troubles 2 years in. Same with the arm rest, the foam part of the arm rest has completely degraded on its own and now looks like the foam has ripped off its side and quite cheap looking.

I would not recommend the sayl chair, seems like the more expensive products are ok but the avoid the lower end of herman miller. This is quite disappointing and my opinion of the herman miller name is a bit tarnished.
