Stockholm-based architects Gabriella Gustafson and Mattias Ståhlbom were among the small group of designers invited to create public benches for the 2010 London Design Festival. The piece they created was similar to their Adaptable Table in that it drew upon traditional Nordic handicraft but with an updated twist. Working from their studio called TAF Architects – a name pulled from the middle of Gabriella’s surname – Gustafson and Ståhlbom share a common goal: “To make ordinary life less ordinary through subtle but effective changes in how products and architecture appear and function.” Mixing materials is one of the cornerstones of Nordic design, and the Adaptable Table takes that tradition one step further by allowing you to mix materials as you wish. This is a table that adapts to your interior and taste, rather than the other way around. TAF’s work has been exhibited at MoMA in New York and the Swedish National Museum in Stockholm. Simple assembly required. Made in China.
